5 Simple ways to motivate your staffPassion is not always the driving factor behind why people work – many of them work just to make ends meet and not everyone is motivated to go the extra mile.

Motivation is normally the key factor behind an employee’s performance and that’s the reason why keeping your workforce motivated is important for an organization’s success.

Below are five ways you can motivate your staff:

1: OFFER INCENTIVES FOR GOOD WORK
Offering rewards and incentives for good performance is always a great motivator for the staff as this gives your employees a goal to look forward to. Not only will this increase your staff’s work productivity and quality, it will also significantly impact your business.

Some incentives could be extra vacation time or an office party at the end of the quarter – choose what works best for your office.

2: MAKE WORK MORE FUN
One motivation killer is the mundane and boring side of doing the same thing each and every day. Try to make your working environment fun so that your employees stay active and motivated. Make your office a comfortable place to be or consider turning work into a competitive game. Whatever you do, just make sure it is fun for your employees.

3: SHOW FLEXIBILITY
When you aren’t flexible in understanding your employee’s personal schedules and commitments, it can make employees lose motivation and care less about the quality of work they produce. Solve this by offering some flexibility in scheduling and day-to-day assignments.

4: FOLLOW UP CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM WITH POSITIVITY
When an employee performs a task incorrectly, it is important to correct them. Mistakes can cost your company time, money, and even its reputation. However, you never want employees to feel that they are only scolded and never praised for the other things they do well.

When you give constructive criticism, follow it up with a few compliments to keep your workforce motivated.

5: INVEST IN YOUR WORKFORCE
Skill development often includes trips to conferences, workshops and seminars. Keep your employees motivated by showing them that you are invested in what they bring to the table. Allow them to attend various training sessions on the company’s dime to help them further develop their skills as this will benefit both, your organization and the employee.

Keeping your staff motivated doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult. Try a few of the suggestions mentioned above to see what works best and put something into action.
